A little background: the first and true Breton stripe was introduced in 1858 as the uniform for sailors of the French Navy and featured exactly 21 stripes. And since Lands’ End originated as a sailing brand, we think it fits right in with our style.
We had a chat with fashion blogger Brooke Burnett of OneSmallBlonde about her take on this classic look…
Lands’ End: What is it about the Breton stripe that you like so much?
Brooke Burnett: Blue and white stripes will never go out of style. It’s a pattern that everyone recognises and looks good on everyone. I personally love the Starfish Lace-Up Hoodie because of the lace-up detail. It gives the top a classic but chic look. It’s totally on brand with my style motto: simple, sophisticated, chic.
LE: Who do you think of when you think of the Breton stripe? Any icon or celebrity that stands out?
BB: I’d say Reese Witherspoon. She is the epitome of an all-American classic woman, to me. And she’s blonde like me, so I’m a little biased.
LE: How do you wear a Breton stripe? Any favourite pairing pieces?
BB: Keep the entire outfit classic. I’d go with a simple pair of white jeans. If I was going to grab lunch with my girlfriends, I’d wear a classic pair of nude pumps. However, if I’m just out running errands a clean pair of white trainers would be cute.
LE: What are your other go-to spring styles?
BB: Like I mentioned, a great pair of white jeans is perfect for spring. Who really cares about the “no white rule” these days? Another go-to spring style is a great jacket. I’m the queen of jackets so I’d choose a denim jacket or a classic trench coat.
LE: What’s your favourite part about spring?
BB: Warmer weather! It makes me want to get outside and explore.
Thanks for sharing, Brooke. And remember to share your own styles for spring with #MyLandsEndUK on social media.
